Core Game Loop

The fundamental cycle of play.

The loop has three repeating steps:

  • Inform. The DM explains the situation; players ask questions, understand their options, and discuss intentions.
  • Decide. The players decide what their characters do and state the actions.
  • Resolve. The results of the actions are determined and the situation changes.

The loop depends on a mental model of the situation shared by the DM and players.
