Description¶
The head of a Temple or Great Temple. Confirms the ordination of new priests, hears appeals from the temple courts, sits on the settlement's Council in an advisory or dominant role, corresponds with allied temples across the region. Wears the vestments and regalia of his office; keeps a private suite, a treasury, and a small guard. On the greatest holy days he stands at the sanctuary altar and leads the whole congregation in the rites of the faith.
Composes as High Priest in the Faithful axis (Temple and Great Temple themes) — see Faithful: High Priest (theme).
Design notes¶
- Fills the CR 6 divine niche as the divine equivalent of the SRD Mage. A domain's Temple has one High Priest; a Great Temple has one High Priest of higher renown and reach.
- 13th-level cleric spell load. Access to 7th-level divine word signals real magical authority without approaching Archmage-tier power.
- Divine Eminence and Divine Radiance echo the Priest and Hierophant patterns.
- Spell selection is SRD-compatible.
- Original stat block; not copied from any WotC supplement.
